Peanut Butter Cake with Maple Butter Cream by BakeSpace Member DDPie

Over the years, peanut butter has gone beyond just the simple peanut butter and jelly (PB&J) sandwich to become the foundation for all sorts of savory sauces.

Mixing Peanut Butter Gracefully: Sure we all want to buy the natural, more healthy type of peanut butter without preservatives and trans-fat solidifiers, but no one wants to deal with how the natural oil solids tend to separate in the jar. Blending and spreading the natural kind of peanut butter can be a real hassle. But don’t despair… here are a few tricks:

Break out the hand mixer: This may be a bit of overkill, but it sure beats trying to blend peanut butter with a knife. Attach just one of the beater blades, submerge it completely in the peanut butter and set the mixer to low speed. Mix until you’re happy with the results.

Let gravity do the work: Turn the sealed jar of peanut butter upside down. Gravity will force the oil to rise again to the top (in this case the bottom), and some of it will be absorbed as it passes through the peanut butter. This will soften up the solids so that when you turn the jar right side up, the peanut butter will be easier to spread.
